MARSS00011 - Marine Radio Operator's VHF Skill Set

This Skill Set is offered by AMFA to people who require a Coxswains Grade1 and/or Masters of commercial vessels with proficiency in the use of marine VHF radio and telephone equipment to transmit and receive information to and from ship to ship and ship to shore.

This Skill Set reflects the skills required by Masters of commercial vessels who use marine radio and telephone equipment to transmit and receive information to and from ship to ship and ship to shore.

This Skill Set reflects the work required by people who need to complete shipboard safety units of competency required by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).

Marine Safety

This course is offered by AMFA to people who are required to undertake limited maritime operations with low complexity duties to:

  • operate during daylight hours only

  • command a vessel <12m long and operate propulsion power for an inboard engine <100kW or outboard engine <250kW

MAR10418 - Certificate I in Maritime Operations

This qualification is suitable for people who are employed or seeking employment in the seafood or maritime industries to command a commercial marine vessel:

  • up to 12 metres in length

  • with propulsion power that is unlimited for an outboard engine or up to 100kW for an inboard engine

  • that is not carrying passengers

MAR20318 - Certificate II in Maritime Operations

This qualification is suitable for people who are employed or seeking employment in the seafood or maritime industries to command a commercial marine vessel:

  • up to 12 metres in length

  • with propulsion power that is unlimited for an outboard engine or up to 500 kW for an inboard engine

  • that can carry passengers

MAR31018 - Certificate III in Maritime Operations

This qualification is suitable for people who are employed or seeking employment in the seafood or maritime industries to command a commercial marine vessel:

  • up to 24 metres in length within inland waters

MAR30918 - Certificate III in Maritime Operations

This qualification is suitable for people who are employed or seeking employment in the seafood or maritime industries to gain an Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) certificate of competency in the capacity of:

  • master on commercial vessels up to 24 m in length within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) or

  • chief mate or deck watchkeeper on vessels up to 35 m in length within the EEZ                        or

  • chief mate or deck watchkeeper on vessels up to 80 m in length in inshore waters

MAR40618 - Certificate IV in Maritime Operations

This qualification is offered by AMFA to people who are employed or seeking employment in the seafood or maritime industries to act on a commercial marine vessel:

  • Up to 35 metres in length within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) as a Master and up to 80 metres in length as a Mate.

MAR20418 - Certificate II in Maritime Operations

This qualification is suitable for people who are employed or seeking employment in the seafood or maritime industries to operate machinery:

  • on vessels less than 500kW propulsion power as a Chief Engineer in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ)

  • on vessels less than 750kW propulsion power as a Seconf Engineer in the EEZ

MAR30818 - Certificate III in Maritime Operations

This qualification is suitable for people who are employed or seeking employment in the seafood or maritime industries to operate machinery:

  • On vessels less than 750kW propulsion power as a Chief Engineer in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)

  • On vessels less than 1500kW propulsion power as Second Engineer in the EEZ

SFI30411 - Certificate III in Fisheries Compliance

This qualification is suitable for people who are employed or seeking employment as Fisheries Officers.

MARSS00007 - Safety Training Certificate Skill Set

This skill set is suitable for people who are employed or seeking employment in the seafood or maritime industries to work on a near coastal commercial marine vessel, or on an International/offshore vessel. 

This Skill Set reflects the work required by people who need an Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Certificate of Safety Training.

Certificate of Safety Training - Continued Competence

This course is offered by AMFA to people that have undertaken the Certificate of Safety Training within the previous five years and have the appropriate sea time over that period to be assessed for continued competence.

MAR20318 - Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal

This course is tailored for Year 11 & 12 High School Students.

The course prepares young and enthusiastic members of the community with a range of entry level maritime skills.

The course adds 60 points towards South Australian Certificate of Education and is offered currently at campuses in Port Adelaide, Port Lincoln and Northern Territory.
