Diploma in Maritime Operations 
(Marine Engineer Class 3 Near Coastal) 

This qualification is offered by AMFA to people who are employed or seeking employment in the seafood or maritime industries to operate machinery:

  • On vessels less than 3000kW propulsion power as a Chief Engineer in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

  • On vessels with outboard engine with unlimited propulsion as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer in the EEZ.

This qualification is part of the regulatory requirements to obtain a Marine Engineer Class 3 NC Certificate of Competency (CoC).  For other regulatory requirements relating to the Marine Engineer Class 3 NC CoC, please visit the AMSA website to view the current AMSA Guidance Notice http://www.amsa.gov.au


Course dates and locations:

Course duration is fourteen (14) training weeks without the MARSS00007 Safety Training Certification Skill Set component. 

Please refer to the MARSS00007 information sheet for more detailed information on this component. 

Classes are generally held between the hours of 8.30am– 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Full attendance is required. 

Some out of hours study will be required.
