Maritime Industry Pathway Program

for Year 11 and 12 Students

MAR20318 Certificate II in Maritime Operations

(Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal)

About the course:

The course prepares young and enthusiastic members of the community with a range of entry level maritime skills. The course adds 60 points towards South Australian Certificate of Education and is offered  currently at campuses in Port Adelaide, Port Lincoln and Northern Territory.

   

This qualification is offered by AMFA to students who are seeking employment in the seafood or maritime industries to command a commercial marine vessel:

  • Up to 12 metres in length

  • With propulsion power that is unlimited for an outboard engine or up to 500kW for an inboard engine

Carry passengers on this vessel:

  • Inshore or

  • As a tender or auxiliary vessel within 3 nautical miles (nm) of a parent vessel within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ)

This qualification will assist students to fast track their maritime career as either an engineer or deck officer.

Entry requirements:

  • Students must be Australian citizens and at least 16 years of age at the starting date of the course.  Students are expected to have undertaken the appropriate language, literacy and numeracy testing through their associated school.

  • Students must complete a Form A and submit to the appropriate VET coordinator prior to undertaking the training.

Course costs:

If you undertake this course as part of vocational education pathway through SACE, there may be a $100 fee incurred. This is GST free and paid to your home school. see www.wats.sa.edu.au
