The Australian Maritime & Fisheries Academy has an impressive range of resources that allow the delivery of relevant, practically-focussed training. These resources include active and static training vessel, two damage control simulators; as well as wheelhouse/bridge and engine room simulators.
Part of the training students undertake is navigational simulation. This is conducted on AMFA's Wheelhouse simulator. Fully operational radar, GPS and plotting equipment is used to simulate real-time navigational situations. Students also have access to a number of different computer-modelled simulations to test their abilities. A fully functioning vessel engine room is used to simulate operation and maintenance aboard a vessel. AMFA's courses are designed to give students practical experience in the controlled environment of AMFA's classrooms.
