Student Code of Conduct

Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy is committed to providing students with a safe, supportive and intellectually challenging environment.

Students who enrol in Academy courses agree at all times during their enrolment period to:

  • Conduct themselves in a professional manner and behave responsibly and with consideration for others at all times;

  • Refrain from any conduct which impairs the reasonable freedom of other students to pursue their studies at the Academy;

  • Turn off their mobile telephone during class time or leave their mobile telephone in another location during class time.

  • Not disrupt any teaching activity or examination being conducted by the Academy;

  • Refrain from impairing any student's study program by assault, attempted assault or threat to any person;

  • Use their own skills, time and attention to the maximum of their abilities;

  • Take responsibility for the efficient use of their time and achievement of the objectives of their course;

  • Maintain an acceptable standard of personal presentation;

  • Ensure that their actions do not threaten the health and safety of fellow students or Academy staff; and

  • Refrain from the use of any non-prescribed drugs or alcohol while on campus and during the normal course hours 8.00am - 5.30pm

Students who disregard or are found to be in breach of the Code of Conduct will be given a verbal warning by an Academy staff member. A second breach of the Code of Conduct will result in the student being issued with a written warning from the Academy CEO.  Subsequent breaches of the Code of Conduct will result in the student being expelled and automatic forfeiture of all course fees.

By signing the Academy enrolment form students acknowledge that they understand the services available to them, the rights and expectations they can have as a student and agree to be bound by the requirements of the Student Code of Conduct and other relevant Academy policies.

Drug Policy:

The Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy (AMFA) delivers training related to a range of occupations that take place at sea, which can often be a dangerous environment.

Practical activities used by the Academy in the delivery of training, at times, reflect the dangerous nature of the industry and while the Academy takes all measures to ensure the safety of its students, it also requires that students are not impaired by the taking of illicit drugs or the consumption of alcohol.

Students are informed in the Pre-enrolment information brochure that they are to refrain from the use of any non-prescribed drugs or alcohol while on campus and during the normal course hours of 8.00am - 5.30pm. In addition, students are informed that random drug testing of students may be undertaken during a course and that any student suspected of being under the influence of illicit drugs or alcohol may be tested prior to any dangerous practical activities being undertaken.

Students that test positive to illicit drugs or alcohol will be given a verbal warning by an Academy staff member. If this breach occurs immediately prior to a dangerous practical activity, the student will also be required to stand down from the activity and return to complete the activity when sober and at their own cost.

A second breach of this policy will result in the student being issued with a written warning from the Academy CEO. If this breach occurs immediately prior to a dangerous practical activity, the student will also be required to stand down from the activity and return to complete the activity when sober and at their own cost.

Subsequent breaches of the Code of Conduct will result in the student being expelled and automatic forfeiture of all course fees.
